This spring Arcady will be making a stop in Guelph to present their most celebrated performance of Handel’s Messiah on April 8 at 7:30pm.
The choral masterpiece, which includes the famous Hallelujah Chorus, will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church in Guelph.
The work will be directed by renowned conductor, Ronald Beckett. Arcady forms the chorus for Boris Brott’s National Academy Orchestra’s annual Messiah.
Proceeds from this concert will support The Life Centre in downtown Guelph.
The Life Centre provides a safe and loving environment for anyone in need.
Each week, the centre provides an average of 600 meals, plus art and music programs to the at-risk and marginalized population of Guelph – people dealing with mental and physical health challenges, poverty and various stages of addiction and recovery. For more information about the Life Centre contact Robyn Ferrier at robyn@theferriers.ca, Kevin Coghill at kevinpcoghill@gmail.com or see www.thelifecentre.ca.
Messiah, the great oratorio by George Frideric Handel, is a work that stands above and beyond any other in the history of music.
No other work has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many people, from so many backgrounds, and for so many generations.
Messiah, written in 1741 to the wordbook compiled by librettist Charles Jennens, was a work that was originally intended for and performed during Lent. Only after Handel’s lifetime has it become associated with the celebration of Christmas.
This performance will feature solos from a number of Guelph residents including tenor Chris Fischer, soprano Heather Fleming and baritone Kieran Kane.
Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children 10 years of age and under. They can be reserved online at www.messiahguelph.com or by emailing robyn@tlcseasons.com. For more information visit www.arcady.ca.
